El septiembre se inaugurará la primera etapa del proyecto de conectividad rural, que proveerá de internet y telefonía móvil a más de tres millones de personas de 1.474 localidades del país, ello significará tener un 90% de la población rural conectada, anunciaron ayer autoridades del Ministerio de Transportes y Telecomunicaciones (MTT) junto a los principales ejecutivos de Entel.
Se trata de una iniciativa conjunta del Gobierno y la empresa de telecomunicaciones, la cual contempla una inversión que supera los US$100 millones, de los cuales US$45 millones corresponden a un subsidio estatal, dividido en partes iguales entre el gobierno central y los regionales. El resto será financiado por la empresa privada.
Sin embargo, esta inversión podría triplicarse en un plazo de cinco años, señaló el gerente general corporativo, Richard Büchi.
El proyecto ha sido dividido en tres etapas. La primera contempla conectar a 451 localidades, beneficiando con ello a 1,7 millones de personas, más de mil escuelas, 650 jardines infantiles y 250 consultorios y entidades de salud, señaló el ministro de Transportes y Telecomunicaciones, Felipe Morandé.
Y en un plazo de dos años pretende incorporar 596 localidades en una segunda etapa y 427 en su etapa final, agregó.
Respecto al precio máximo fijado para acceder a la tecnología, el subsecretario de Telecomunicaciones, Jorge Atton, señaló que será de $14.900 mensuales, y existen recursos del fondo de Desarrollo de las Telecomunicaciones que serán utilizados para subsidiar la demanda.
Consultado respecto a la compra de la empresa Transam que estaría negociando Entel, Büchi señaló que no tiene relación con el proyecto de conectividad, por lo que declinó referirse al tema. Sólo agregó que “nosotros estamos permanentemente evaluando nuevos negocios”.
